“Art in Deep Silence” – An Interview with Şule Hülya ARYAY
Exclusive Interview – Motoryat Magazine
We are in the presence of an artist who brings the spirit of the sea and the elegance of Istanbul to her canvas. Born in 1976 in Istanbul, Şule Hülya ARYAY stepped into the world of art at the age of four, receiving an award from Finland that marked the beginning of her lifelong journey. A conservatory graduate, ARYAY has never let go of her bond with painting—her watercolors and oil works have reflected a deep inner world throughout the years.
Now, she invites us into an entirely new experience with her 3D series titled “Deep Silence.”
We met Şule in her studio, surrounded by music and color. Each brushstroke seemed to follow the rhythm of classical melodies. Here is how our conversation unfolded:
Editor: Şule, your relationship with art began at a very young age. How did this journey evolve?
Şule Hülya ARYAY: For me, art is not just a form of expression—it’s a way of life. That award I received from Finland at age four was only the beginning. During my conservatory education, I realized how deeply music and painting are intertwined. Each note carries the emotion of a color. That’s why I always paint with classical music playing in the background. It’s a kind of meditation.
Editor: Your “Deep Silence” series feels particularly resonant for those in the maritime world. What’s the story behind these three-dimensional works?
Şule Hülya ARYAY: There’s a world beneath the sea—silent, yet powerful. When you dive deep, you disconnect from everything and are left alone with your inner voice. That’s what these pieces aim to convey: the depth within silence, the sea within the soul. I shape the colors and forms around this idea. These are not just visual artworks—they are emotional experiences.
Editor: How do these compositions come to life?
Şule Hülya ARYAY: The concept behind this series was born in collaboration with my husband, Barış ARYAY. He builds the conceptual framework; I translate it onto canvas. It’s a shared dream, and that makes it even more meaningful.
Editor: What does this collection offer to yacht owners and sea lovers?
Şule Hülya ARYAY: I don’t want these works to be just decorative items on a wall. I want them to carry a spirit—an emotional depth. With their 3D structure, they feel like windows into the sea’s soul. It’s about bringing the stillness and power of the deep ocean into your living space, your yacht, your life.
A Journey into Artistic Depth
With her “Deep Silence” series, Şule Hülya ARYAY merges classic techniques with the philosophy of the sea. These are not just paintings—they are reflections of the quiet strength beneath the waves. A collection for those who understand that the ocean is more than water: it’s emotion, memory, and timeless beauty.
Whether you’re a sailor, a collector, or simply someone who feels connected to the sea—these works were created for you.
